Holy Spirit, keep evil thoughts far from me. Help me not to think, speak, or do evil against the people around me. Help me to be loving and kind toward everyone, that I may follow my Savior’s example. Amen.

Repair what I’ve ruined
Dear heavenly Father, the good that I want to do is seldom accomplished. Today is not any different—I have let my anger get the best of me. Without your only Son, my Savior, I would be lost. Repair what I’ve ruined. Heal the hurts I’ve caused and heal my heart by cleansing it with Jesus’ blood. Assure me that I am forgiven and that you have not abandoned me. With my heart resting on you, give me peace. In Jesus’ name.

Soothe my soul
Gracious God of my salvation, I get so angry every day that it wears me out. My body and soul both need rest. I ask you to forgive my inconsiderate acts. Let the forgiveness Jesus earned soothe my soul. In perfect peace I am calm, knowing that you love me for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Dedicate my actions to you
Faithful Jesus, you have blessed me with another day. I end up focusing on the troubles and struggles of my day—that can get me a little bit cranky. Help me turn my focus to you and the undeserved love you have shown me, so that I can dedicate my actions to you. Strengthen my faith, so I may meet you face to face in heaven. Amen.

Help my attitude
Heavenly Father, as I meet other people today help me treat them with love and kindness. Help me try to understand them instead of getting frustrated and angry. Let me be ready to forgive their sins, eager to help them, and bold to confess my Savior to them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Treat me as your child
Father, I run to your loving arms for safety and protection. I do wrong and sin every day. But you know that I am your child through faith in Jesus. Thanks don’t seem adequate compared to your care and compassion as you treat me like your child—with love and forgiveness. Help me to show how grateful I am by living the way you want me to live. For Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Watch over us all
Precious Savior, another day is here. I commit myself, my family, my friends, and all of your children to your care. Relieve those who are suffering, those who are sick, and those who have endured a loss. Be with the lonely, the troubled, and the down-hearted. Forgive those who ask for forgiveness. Watch over us all, and bless us. Amen.

Keep us safe
Heavenly Father, send your holy angels to watch over us today. You have blessed us with another day, and under your fatherly care we look forward to more opportunities to serve you. Keep us safe and help us take a stand for you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

You are my Good Shepherd
Jesus, I can’t even get ready in time every morning, much less be prepared for the spiritual struggles I will face during the day. I’m so glad you are my Good Shepherd and you care for me. When I follow you, I am prepared. When I listen to you, I have no fear of my enemies. I am ready. Amen.

Strength for the day
God, you know the kind of day that I am facing today. Thank you for giving me the physical strength to do my work and the grace to handle the tough tasks ahead of me. Help me to do things the way that you would want me to do them. Forgive me when I don’t handle things well. I look to you for guidance. Amen.

Help me to find work
Lord Jesus, there is no problem too big or small for you to handle. You handled the problem of my sin when you gave your life for me on the cross. You opened heaven’s door when you rose from the dead. You care about our spiritual problems and about our physical troubles, too. I pray that you would help me find work—meaningful and gainful employment. Help me to use my hands to earn my daily bread. As you take care of the sparrows, also provide for my physical needs. I trust in you for you are my refuge in every time of trouble. Amen.

Thankfulness for employment
Heavenly Father, it’s good to know that one way we show our love to you, is through the work we do for ourselves and for others. We praise you for the blessing of work. We realize, dear Lord, that our sinful nature grows tired of the same old routine, where we sometimes feel overworked, under appreciated, under valued, or overstressed. Yet you remind us in your the Word that we are to be thankful for a job, and that we can ask you to help us use the knowledge and skill you have given us to the best of our ability. Thank you that through work, you allow us to provide for our families and our future. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

As I retire
Father in heaven, through the years you have given me both successes and failures in my occupation. Now as I retire I commit my life’s work to you, Lord. For Jesus’ sake forgive my sins and shortcomings. Do not look at the times I had a bad attitude or looked out only for my own interests. Accept the labor of my hands as labor done not for men but for you.

Grant your blessing now in the years ahead. Keep me in good health. Let me find work that will prove useful to your people, and give me a degree of personal fulfillment. Help me to enjoy your gifts of family and friends. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Give me faith
Oh God, you have called me to be your own and to live in the grace of your kindness now and forever. Give me faith to appreciate it and live with confidence as your dear child. When you act in my life for my good, remind my doubting heart that you are not interrupting something more important but improving what I wouldn’t be able to improve by myself. Amen.

Send your Holy Spirit

Dear Jesus, by your living, dying, and rising you have changed the world. You have changed me. Send your Holy Spirit to continue to change my sin and selfishness to service. And with your guidance let me change the world. Help me to be committed enough and strong enough, patient enough and wise enough, compassionate enough and forgiving enough to do something good for others—only because of what you have done for me. Amen.

Slow the hurried pace
Lord God, in all the busyness of life help me to find time to contemplate the greatness of your power and love. Forgive me when work or play becomes more important than you. Slow the hurried pace of my life so that I may listen to the still, small voice of your Word and be refreshed. Amen.

Believing in you

Almighty God, you chose us to be your own. You loved us so much that even though you expect perfection, you gave us a way out. You forgave us and sent your son, Jesus, to take the punishment for all the wrongs we have done by dying on the cross. And as if that wasn’t enough, Jesus rose again and has prepared a place for us to live with him in our eternal paradise. Please be with us as we share this awesome message with others. Amen.

Assure me
Lord Jesus Christ, you are my one and only Savior. I need the blessings you have set aside for me. Assure me that I am forgiven. Remind me that you promise eternal life in heaven with you. Give me a strong faith that always looks to you for these things. Amen.

A personal confession of sin
My Father, my God, I come before you drowning in wrongdoing—sin. All of my plans to leave sinful ways have fallen through. Instead of doing what you want me to do, I find I get myself into trouble instead. I know that I deserve eternal punishment for the evil things I have thought, said, and done. But I call on you, Lord. Be merciful to me. For the sake of the sufferings of Jesus, as he took my place on the cross, wash away my sin. Let me be grateful for your love and forgiveness. Amen.

Confession
Lord God, we have known sorrow and suffering. We have sinned and often strayed. As you are merciful, do not judge us according to our wrongdoing. But judge us according to the life and death that Jesus lived in our place, and forgive us. Help us correct our sinful ways. And remind us of the joy we will have in the mansion you have prepared for us in heaven. Amen.

We are not worthy

Jesus, our one and only Savior, we are not worthy of your love. We are not worthy of your goodness. We are not worthy of your blessings. But forgive our sins, not because we deserve it but because you are a merciful Savior who paid for our sins with your own blood. Shower your grace on us, and keep us safe. Amen.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Dear Jesus, this time of year kids of all ages graduate from kindergarten all the way to grad school. Graduation can be a time to reminisce. But graduation is also a time to look ahead toward the future—to the next step on our path to further education or that new job. No matter what age we are and no matter where we are on our path of learning, please don’t let us forget that this world and all it offers are nothing next to the plans you have for us. You are preparing our future—a place in eternal paradise—for us, not because we deserve it, but because of the perfect life you lived for us and the suffering and death you endured in our place. No matter what opportunities or challenges may be allowed to cross our path, thank you for the future you are willing to share with us. Amen.

Give me peace
Dear Jesus, you are the great physician of body and soul. You know the health problems I am experiencing. You know the fear I have inside as I see my body deteriorating. You know the guilt I am feeling over not taking better care of myself. I come to your cross for forgiveness and healing. Have mercy on me, for I am made of dust. Give me peace while I am dealing with these problems. I trust in your unfailing love. Bear me up in your arms and keep me safe as I commit my life to you. Amen.

Grant me relief
Dear Jesus, you suffered great pain when you died for me on the cross. Help me in my pain. Look on me with mercy and grant me relief from these burdens. When the pain is more than I can bear, carry me. I thank you that you are a compassionate Savior who feels my pain as if it were your own. I thank you that you have been touched by my infirmities. Help me in my depression. Revive my spirits. Lead me safely through this dark valley in my life. I commit my body and soul and all my cares into your nail-pierced hands. Be with me and grant me your peace. Amen.

Thank you for comfort and healing
Dear Lord Jesus, during your earthly ministry there was no sickness you could not heal and no pain that you could not comfort. Even now it is you who gives comfort and healing to all who suffer. Let your loving hand rest upon all who are sick or injured. Let them know that no matter what problems they face, your power is made perfect in weakness. Ease their pain, calm their fears, and encourage their faith with the promise of your grace. Amen.

A life of love and joy
Savior, you carried the weight of the whole world’s sins when you hung on the cross. I can’t understand the love you have for me that carried you through that ordeal. I can never hope to repay you. Help me to lead a life of love and joy, knowing that my actions will reflect the gratitude I feel. Amen.

Fill us with love
Lord, you created us to be people with emotions. With deep regret, we admit that Satan often takes those emotions and uses them for his purposes. Take away all of our frustration, anger, doubt, and bitterness, and fill us with love, peace, joy, and contentment. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Loving others
God, how can I ever thank you enough for all the blessings you give? This day has again brought proof of your goodness. Trusting in your love, help me show the joy that I have because of what you have done for me. Teach me to love others as you love me. Help me be more patient and alert to the needs of others, and always ready to serve them with the gifts you have given me. In your name I pray. Amen.

Help me love my neighbor
Dear God, heavenly Father, the fruit of the Spirit is love. Please give me this very important Christian virtue. Help me appreciate the great love you have shown to me. Help me show that love in my life and actions. I love you because you first loved me. Help me love my neighbor, and think of others before I think of myself. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest, and let these gifts to us be blessed. Amen.

O, give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good, and his mercy endures forever. Amen.

For patience
Lord Jesus, you promised to comfort those who mourn and to satisfy those who hunger. In time of trial remind me of your cross, where you endured the curse of my sin. When I am weak, teach me to depend on you for strength. At your own time, deliver me from suffering and distress. Amen.

Make us patient

Dear God, heavenly Father, all too often we are quick to become frustrated and angry. Make us patient, ready to endure trials that come our way, knowing you will work things for our good. Make us patient, willing to continue, believing your promise that we can do great things for you. Make us patient, bearing with others in their weaknesses and sin, realizing that we too are sinful creatures. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Patience and trust
Heavenly Father, please don’t let any success I enjoyed today fill me with false pride or lead me to forget you. All blessings come to me because of your grace. Strengthen me to bear all disappointments with patience and trust in you alone. Hear me for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Teach us patience
Dear Lord, teach us the value of patience and give us a calm and gentle spirit to remain patient, even when you are testing us. Remind us that when you make us wait, when you teach us patience, it is to bless, strengthen, and refine us as your tools. Help us see that our patience under testing is a powerful witness to those around us who do not know Jesus. Make us strong to do your will. Amen.

May we truly be thankful
Heavenly Father, as we look around us, you have once again shown us all your blessings. We know that you have provided much more than just our daily needs. We thank you for so generously giving us your Son, our Lord. Through him you have showered us with the blessings of forgiveness, a purpose in life, and eternal life in paradise—no strings attached. For all these blessings, may we truly be thankful, dear Lord. Amen.

We thank you, Lord
Dear Savior, thank you for your suffering and dying for us on Calvary’s cross. We thank you for taking the guilt, the curse, and the punishment for our sins. We thank you for your victory over the grave and all it brings to us. We thank you, Lord, for your perfect substitution. Now help us appreciate the blessings we have because of your death and resurrection. Help us demonstrate our thankfulness by our actions and service—not just our words. Help our actions direct others to you, their Savior. Amen.

For humble gratitude
God of grace, give me grace to view my present circumstance with humble gratitude. Teach me the secret of contentment. Keep me from murmuring against your will, and help me break the habit of envying the blessings others receive. Give me the satisfaction that comes from being sure of having eternal life in Jesus. Amen.

Thanks in being forgiven
Thank you, Lord, for convincing us that our sins are forgiven and for letting us praise you today. Fill us with your love, and keep it bright throughout the coming week. Watch over us and our loved ones, and bless our work, rest, and activities in the days ahead. Amen.

In time of need
Lord God, you know our human weaknesses and frailties. You know our needs and cares. We do not in any way deserve your help, Lord, but we truly need it. Therefore we come to you. Give us peace of mind, so that we may face the difficulties that now confront us. Strengthen our weak faith, lead us with your strong hand, and work things out so that they serve our eternal good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Deliver me
Heavenly Father, you are my harbor of safety in the storms of life, my rock that I cling to for salvation, and my Redeemer who alone can save me from destruction. Take notice of my need, and reach out your hand to save me from my hurts and afflicts. Do not let my trouble overwhelm me. Strengthen and encourage me, save and deliver me, and cleanse me from sin. Amen.

Hear my call for help
Lord, the problems and pressures of life overwhelm me. My sin is always with me. The temptations of the world follow me wherever I go. By my own strength alone I cannot resist them. But you, Lord, are righteous and holy. In your great love and mercy make me righteous and holy, too. For Jesus sake take away my guilt and failure. Give me the joy that comes from being your forgiven child. Renew in my heart the love that makes me eager to do your will and devote my life to your glory. If I were ever without you I would be lost. But because of your promise to be with me always, I will trust in you. I will cling to your Word and put my hope in your grace. Father, hear my prayer. Amen.

In time of temptation
God, you have promised me that you will never test me more than I am able to bear. So I turn to you in my weakness and ask for strength to resist and overcome the temptations so often placed in my path by Satan and my sinful nature. Teach me through your holy Word to desire what is right in your eyes and cause me to live a life of daily repentance, looking to Jesus for pardon and strength. Amen.
