WELS Foundation Staff
WELS Foundation is headquartered at the WELS Center for Mission and Ministry in Waukesha, Wis. Day-to-day operations are carried out by synod employees assigned to WELS Foundation.
Mark Maurice serves as executive director of WELS Foundation and WELS Investment Funds. He brings more than 30 years of experience in Christian stewardship, charitable gift planning, and endowment development.
Throughout his career, Mark has worked alongside individuals, families, congregations, schools, and ministries to help support gospel work through current gifts, endowment funds, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, gifts of appreciated securities and real estate. He enjoys helping people thoughtfully consider how the blessings God has entrusted to them can continue supporting the ministries they care about most.
Before joining WELS Foundation and WELS Investment Funds, Mark served as vice president for Mission Advancement at Martin Luther College. He also served as a philanthropic adviser with the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, where he worked with nonprofit organizations, donor-advised funds, and endowments to encourage long-term stewardship and charitable giving.
Mark earned his master’s degree in business administration with a finance concentration. He has been a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) since 1997. He considers it a privilege to walk alongside individuals, families, and ministries as they prayerfully explore ways to support gospel work today and for generations to come.

Kyle Bartsch joined WELS Foundation in 2024 as program development and research administrator. He helps individuals, families, and congregations explore charitable giving opportunities that support gospel ministry in meaningful and tax-efficient ways.
In his role, Kyle assists donors with complex gifts, including gifts of appreciated assets and planned giving arrangements, helping ensure each gift is carried out smoothly and aligned with the donorās charitable goals. He also researches and develops new giving strategies, so donors have more ways to support the ministries they care about.
Before joining WELS, Kyle served as a registered representative at Landaas & Company, a Milwaukee-based independent wealth advisor firm. He previously worked as an administrator for UMB Fund Services, where he gained experience in mutual fund operations and investment services.

Kathleen Everson joined WELS in 2025 as the investor and donor services specialist for WELS Investment Funds and WELS Foundation.
Prior to joining WELS, she held various back-office operations positions with Allspring Global Investments, Wells Fargo Asset Management, and Strong Investments.

Megan Butz was hired in 2014 as the accounts payable specialist for the WELS finance team. In October 2021, she joined WELS Foundation as the donor services and gift administrator.
Prior to joining WELS, Megan worked at a local credit union as a teller and member service representative.

Diane Scherzberg is the marketing coordinator for WELS Foundation, WELS Investment Funds, and WELS Church Extension Fund. She oversees communication efforts, including website content, e-mail broadcasts, electronic and print communication, webinars, direct mail, event presence, and communication with WELS organizations.
With more than 25 years of experience in marketing, Diane has a strong background in content creation and branding. Diane holds a BBA in marketing with a minor in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and an associate degree in marketing from Madison Area Technical College.
