Pray for Waukesha, WI

Sunday, November 21, at the Waukesha, Wis., Christmas parade a vehicle drove through the parade route, causing multiple injuries and fatalities. One of our WELS churches, Trinity, is located near where the tragedy occurred. Pastor Phil Gurgel from Trinity offered a prayer to share for the community:
Lord of the Church, watch over all those who were affected by the tragedy at Waukesha’s Christmas parade. Grant wisdom to the doctors and nurses as they treat the wounded. Grant healing to all of those who were harmed by the attack. Grant comfort and rest to souls that are emotionally troubled by the events that they witnessed. Grant success to those who serve in law enforcement as they carry out their duties.
Lord, in the days and weeks ahead, use us to serve and comfort the hurting within our community. Give us words to say that will offer peace to troubled hearts, and open our eyes to see those in our community who require our help. As our hearts are troubled, too, by tonight’s events, grant us the stillness of heart to know that you always remain present with your people, even in times of trial. All these petitions we ask in Jesus’ name, trusting that you hear us. Amen.
