European Chaplaincy
ABOUT 
Our WELS European civilian chaplain, Pastor Rob Weiss, is based in Spiesheim, Germany. He serves people in a number of German cities, but also travels to Italy, England, and Switzerland. Both civilians and military personnel living in Europe are referred to our European civilian chaplain for spiritual support.
REFERRALS
- Service members in Europe: In order to make contact with WELS members in Europe, our chaplain appreciates referrals. Submit the names of men and women in military service using the Service Member Referral button at the bottom of this page.
- WELS civilians and tourists in Europe: If people are in Europe as civilian workers or temporarily as tourists, they are welcome to attend a WELS Europe worship service. Confirm details by e-mailing the civilian chaplain.
Worship in Europe
WELS Europe members invite you to attend worship with us! We’d like your first experience to be comfortable, friendly, and inviting.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT WORSHIP
- Worship is informal. Come as you are!
- Our services last about one hour. We will greet you at the door and give you any information that is needed for worship.
- Typically there are opportunities for Sunday school, Bible class, and fellowship for all ages after our services.
WHEN AND WHERE WE WORSHIP
- We regularly hold worship services once or twice per month at various places in Germany and Switzerland. We worship in chapels on military installations, in community spaces, in school classrooms, and even in homes.

- Worship opportunities can also be arranged at other sites if you live far from where we regularly worship. Please fill out our contact form and the pastor will get in touch with you.

Events & Retreats
Twice a year, various groups served by the European Chaplaincy gather for retreats, generally around the celebrations of Easter and Reformation. Retreats are an opportunity for those served by the European chaplaincy who are scattered throughout Europe to gather together and enjoy Bible study, fellowship, and worship with one another.
