New testament canon
This is really bothering me. Why do we consider the papacy of the Roman Catholic Church the Antichrist when they chose the books for the New Testament we use? Seems like everything about the Bible is pick and choose by man. Thanks.
This link will take you to a āStatement on the Antichristā located elsewhere on this website.
The Statement explains that the Lutheran Confessions have identified the papacy as the Antichrist for reasons of āusurping authority in the Church and tyrannizing Christian consciences,ā and opposing God by āusurping the place and name of Godā (2 Thessalonians 2:4).
The papacy did not choose the books for the New Testament we use. The apostles were involved in the collection and preservation of the books of the New Testament (2 Peter 3:15-16; 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22, 2 Thessalonians 2:2, Revelation 2:2). God established what we call the ācanon.ā In time, Godās followers recognized the canon.
