Luke 24:36-53
Luke 24
Jesus Appears to the Disciples
36Ā As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, āPeace be with you.ā
37Ā But they were terrified and frightened and thought they were looking at a ghost.
38Ā He said to them, āWhy are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39Ā Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.ā 40Ā When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41Ā While they still did not believe it (because of their joy), and while they were still wondering, he said to them, āDo you have anything here to eat?ā
42Ā They gave him a piece of broiled fish and some honeycomb. [1] 43Ā He took it and ate in front of them. 44Ā He said to them, āThese are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.ā
45Ā Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46Ā He said to them, āThis is what is written and so it must be: [2] The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47Ā and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48Ā You are witnesses of these things. 49Ā Look, I am sending you what my Father promised. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.ā
Jesus Ascends Into Heaven
50Ā He led them out as far as the vicinity of Bethany. He lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51Ā And while he was blessing them, he parted from them and was taken up into heaven. 52Ā So they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53Ā They were continually in the temple courts, praising and [3] blessing God. Amen. [4]
