Mark 15

Jesusā€™ Burial

42Ā It was already evening, and since it was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath), 43Ā Joseph from Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, boldly went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44Ā Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. He summoned the centurion and asked him if Jesus had been dead for a long time. 45Ā When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he granted the body to Joseph. 46Ā Joseph bought a linen cloth, took him down, and wrapped him in the linen cloth. He laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of rock, and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47Ā Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching where the body was laid.

The Resurrection

Mark 16

1Ā When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so they could go and anoint Jesus. 2Ā Very early on the first day of the week, at sunrise, they went to the tomb. 3Ā They were saying to each other, ā€œWho will roll the stone away from the entrance to the tomb for us?ā€ 4Ā When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.

5Ā As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. 6Ā He said to them, ā€œDo not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7Ā But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ā€˜He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.ā€™ā€

8Ā They went out and hurried away from the tomb, trembling and perplexed. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
