God Speaks to Us By His Son

1 In the past, God spoke to our forefathers by the prophets at many times and in many ways. 2Ā In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3Ā The Son is the radiance of Godā€™s glory and the exact imprint of the divine nature. He sustains all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, [1] he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

The Son Is Superior to the Angels

4Ā The Son became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. 5Ā For to which of the angels did God ever say:

You are my Son. Today I have begotten you? [2]

And again:

I will be his Father, and he will be my Son. [3]

6Ā And again, when he brought his firstborn into the world, he said:

Let all Godā€™s angels worship him. [4]

7Ā About the angels he says:

He makes his messengers winds and his ministers flaming fire. [5]

8Ā But about the Son he says:

God, your throne is forever and ever,
and the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom.
9Ā You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness.
Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy
    beyond your companions. [6]

10Ā And he says:

In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the works of your hands.
11Ā They will perish, but you remain.
They will all become old like a garment.
12Ā You will roll them up like a robe,
and they will be changed like a garment. [7]
But you are the same,
and your years will never end. [8]

13Ā To which of the angels has he ever said:

Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool under your feet? [9]

14Ā Are not all angels ministering spirits sent out to serve for the benefit of those who are going to inherit salvation?
