Grace is Amazing – September 20, 2026

One key truth: God’s grace is for me, and it’s amazing.

And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left—and also many animals?

Grace is Amazing

Is God fair?

The prophet Jonah didn’t think so. You probably remember parts of the story. God had sent him to preach to the people of Ninevah. Why should they get to hear from a prophet? They were not good people. They were known for their wickedness and violence. Jonah didn’t think they deserved a warning from God—or another chance.

Jonah tried to run away, but God got him to Ninevah through the belly of a big fish. Jonah preached to the people of Ninevah and told them that God was going to destroy the city if the people did not repent.

Then a crazy thing happened. The people of Ninevah did repent and ask God for forgiveness, and God relented from his anger and forgave them of their sins.

Jonah didn’t think this was fair. He didn’t even want to preach to them because he knew that God was compassionate, patient, and ready to forgive if they asked.

That led God to say to Jonah the words listed in Jonah 4:11. How could God not be concerned with the souls of more than 120,000 people living in that city?

If God was fair, he would treat everyone only as their sins deserved—everyone would go to hell. Everyone who has ever lived has sinned and deserves eternal death. That includes me, and it includes you.

But God isn’t “fair.” God doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve. He forgives people. It’s what he delights to do. That is grace—and it is amazing.

It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in your past. It doesn’t matter if other people don’t think that God should forgive you. Even when your own guilt tells you that you are beyond forgiveness, God forgives you, God’s promise is stronger than your feelings. Grace is amazing.

God sent Jesus to die on the cross and save you from your sins. Jesus never sinned, but he died a criminal’s death in your place all so that you could spend forever in heaven with him. May that never stop being amazing to you.
