Exactly What I Need: A Humble King – March 29, 2026
One key truth: Our world is constantly talking about political rulers and who’s in charge, but what we need is to remember that our humble King is in charge of all things for our good.
Rejoice greatly, Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your King is coming to you. He is righteous and brings salvation. He is humble and is riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem. The battle bow will be taken away, and he will proclaim peace to the nations. His kingdom will extend from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth.
Zechariah 9:9-10 EHV
Exactly What I Need: A Humble King
It’s easy to get caught up in the noise of politics. Scroll through social media or turn on the news, and it feels like everyone is arguing about who’s right, who’s wrong, and who should be in charge. We see it in news feeds, in conversations at home, in group chats, even in memes online. Everyone looks for someone powerful enough and influential enough to make things better.
But God paints a totally different picture of the kind of leader we actually need.
God promised a King would come—not one showing off power on a war horse, but a humble King riding on a donkey. That’s not what anyone expects from a hero or a leader. And yet, that’s exactly what we see when Jesus rides into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
- He comes not to take power, but to give his life.
- His strength shows in mercy.
- His authority shows in sacrifice.
- His rule brings peace, not fear.
While the world argues over who’s in control, Zechariah reminds us that Jesus already is. His kingdom reaches farther than any government’s influence. His reign doesn’t depend on votes, polls, or popularity; it’s built on love that never fails.
That means your life isn’t controlled by politics, trends, or world events. Your humble King is ruling right now—over your school, your future, your struggles, and your hopes. He isn’t distant. He isn’t distracted. He rides toward you with forgiveness, strength, and peace, ruling all things for your good.
Jesus is exactly the kind of King we need: powerful enough to save, humble enough to serve, and gracious enough to call us his own.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, you are my humble King. Thank you for ruling with love and peace instead of power and pride. Help me to trust that you are in control of all things and that your kingdom will never end. Amen.
