WELS Special Ministries works with WELS congregations and individuals to conquer barriers to ministry including disabilities and other circumstances that prevent people from participation in worship and congregational life. Many Special Ministries teams carry out their work with the support of donations to special project funds. In addition to the Special Ministries Fund, these include the project funds for Mission for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Mission for the Visually Impaired, the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Ministry, Mental Health Needs Committee, Freedom for the Captives (resources for abuse prevention), Conquerors through Christ (pornography addiction ministry), Chaplain Certification, Parish Nurses, Military Services Committee (includes European civilian chaplaincy), Care Committee for Called Workers, and Light for Parents (help for families of children with extraordinary needs).
