1 Chronicles 16

The Psalm of Thanks [1]

7Ā On that day David first gave the directive to give thanks to the Lord through the ministry of Asaph and his associates:

8Ā Give thanks to the Lord.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Call on his name.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Make known his deeds among the peoples.
9Ā Sing to him.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Make music to him.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Tell about all his wonderful acts. [2]
10Ā Praise his holy name.
Ā Ā Ā Ā The hearts of those who seek the Lord will rejoice.
11Ā Seek the Lord and his strength.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Seek his presence continually.
12Ā Remember his wonderful acts, his signs,
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā and the judgments from his mouth,
13Ā you descendants [3] of Israel, his servant,
Ā Ā Ā Ā you sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
14Ā He is the Lord our God.
Ā Ā Ā Ā His judgments are in all the earth.
15Ā Remember his covenant forever,
Ā Ā Ā Ā a word he commanded for a thousand generations,
16Ā his covenant which he made with Abraham,
Ā Ā Ā Ā which was his sworn promise to Isaac.
17Ā He confirmed it to Jacob as a statute for Israel,
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā an everlasting covenant.
18Ā He said, ā€œTo you I will give the land of Canaan
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā as a portion for your inheritance,
19Ā even though your numbers are small,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and you are insignificant,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and you are living in it as aliens.ā€
20Ā They were wandering from nation to nation
Ā Ā Ā Ā and from one kingdom to another people.
21Ā Yet he did not permit anyone to oppress them.
Ā Ā Ā Ā He rebuked kings on their account:
22Ā ā€œYou must not touch my anointed ones.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Against my prophets you must do no harm.ā€
23Ā Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Proclaim the good news of his salvation from day to day.
24Ā Declare his glory among the nations,
Ā Ā Ā Ā his wonderful acts among all the peoples,
25Ā for great is the Lord and greatly to be praised.
Ā Ā Ā Ā He is to be feared above all gods.
26Ā For all the gods of the peoples are not gods at all. [4]
Ā Ā Ā Ā But the Lord made the heavens.
27Ā Honor and majesty are before him.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Strength and joy are in his place.
28Ā Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
29Ā Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Bring an offering and come before him.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
30Ā Tremble before him, all the earth.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Surely the world stands firm.
Ā Ā Ā Ā It shall never be overthrown.
31Ā The heavens will be glad. [5]
Ā Ā Ā Ā The earth will rejoice.
Ā Ā Ā Ā They will say among the nations, ā€œThe Lord reigns.ā€
32Ā The sea and everything that fills it will roar.
Ā Ā Ā Ā The fields and everything in them will celebrate.
33Ā The trees of the forest will sing for joy before the Lord,
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā for he is coming to judge the earth.
34Ā Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā for his mercy endures forever.
35Ā Say, ā€œSave us, O God of our salvation.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Gather us and save us from the nations,
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā to give thanks to your holy name,
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā to glorify you by praising you.ā€
36Ā Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel,
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā from everlasting to everlasting.

Then all the people said ā€œAmenā€ and praised the Lord.

37Ā David left Asaph and his relatives there before the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord, to minister before the Ark continually, to do whatever was needed each day, 38Ā along with Obed Edom and sixty-eight relatives. Obed Edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah served as gatekeepers.

39Ā Zadok the priest and his fellow priests were assigned to the Tent of the Lord at the high place in Gibeon, 40Ā to present burnt offerings to the Lord upon the altar for burnt offerings regularly, morning and evening, according to everything written in the Law of the Lord, which he commanded Israel.

41Ā With them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the Lord, because his mercy endures forever.

42Ā With them were Heman and Jeduthun to make music to God with trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments. The descendants of Jeduthun were assigned to the gate.

43Ā Then all the people departed, each to his own house, and David returned to bless his house.
