Matthew 20
Jesus Heals Two Blind Men
29Ā As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30Ā There were two blind men sitting by the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they shouted, āLord, have mercy on us, Son of David!ā 31Ā The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be quiet. But they shouted even louder, āHave mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!ā
32Ā Jesus stopped and called them. āWhat do you want me to do for you?ā
33Ā They told him, āLord, open our eyes.ā
34Ā Jesus was moved with compassion and touched their eyes. Immediately they regained their sight, and they followed him.
Jesusā Triumphal Entry Into Jerusalem
Matthew 21
1Ā As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2Ā telling them, āGo to the village ahead of you. Immediately you will find a donkey tied there along with her colt. Untie them and bring them to me. 3Ā If anyone says anything to you, you are to say, āThe Lord needs them,ā and he will send them at once.ā
4Ā This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
5Ā Tell the daughter of Zion: Look, your King comes to you, humble, and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. [1]
6Ā The disciples went and did just as Jesus commanded them. 7Ā They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their outer clothing on them, and he sat on it. 8Ā A very large crowd spread their outer clothing on the road. Others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them out on the road. 9Ā The crowds who went in front of him and those who followed kept shouting,
Hosanna [2] to the Son of David!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! [3]
Hosanna in the highest!
10Ā When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, asking, āWho is this?ā 11Ā And the crowds were saying, āThis is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.ā
Jesus Cleanses His Fatherās House
12Ā Jesus entered the temple courts [4] and drove out all those who were selling and buying in the temple. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. 13Ā He said to them, āIt is written, āMy house will be called a house of prayer,ā [5] but you are making it a den of robbers!ā [6]
14Ā The blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. 15Ā But when the chief priests and the experts in the law saw the wonders he performed and heard the children calling out in the temple, āHosanna to the Son of David!ā they were indignant. 16Ā They said to him, āDo you hear what they are saying?ā
āYes,ā Jesus told them, āHave you never read,
Ā Ā Ā Ā From the lips of little children and nursing babies
Ā Ā Ā Ā you have prepared praise?ā [7]
17Ā He left them, went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there.
The Withered Fig Tree
18Ā As he returned to the city early in the morning, he was hungry. 19Ā Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. He said to it, āMay there never be fruit from you again!ā
Immediately the fig tree withered away. 20Ā When the disciples saw it, they were amazed and asked, āHow did the fig tree wither so quickly?ā
21Ā Jesus answered them, āAmen I tell you: If you have faith, and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you told this mountain, āBe lifted up and thrown into the sea,ā it would be done. 22Ā Whatever you ask for in prayer, as you believe, you will receive.ā
