A place to belong in this world and the next

A place to belong in this world and the next

"No matter where Corrina lived, she always felt caught between two worlds. The daughter of a US serviceman and a German mother, she never quite fit in—not in Germany, not in America, not in school, not even in her church. The church she grew up in focused more on what people must do rather than on what Christ has already done for us. Corrina knew her sins and because of them, she never felt she truly belonged. She longed for a place she could call home . . ."

Corrina later moved to Dallas, Texas, and due to health complications moved into an assisted living complex, the same one where a member of Calvary Lutheran Church lived.

Read more from Rev. Benjamin Schone about Corrina's search for belonging and how Jesus’ full and free forgiveness gave peace to her soul.

Christ through us: Congregations

The new WELS long-range strategic plan names four priorities for WELS to focus on for the next ten years. These sweeping areas tackle the challenges the church—and WELS—face today. With the plan’s theme, “Christ through us,” we are given a powerful reminder—God works through us to carry out his work as his ambassadors. The month of October is focused on Congregations: Strengthening WELS’ backbone.

Hundreds of congregations form the backbone of WELS that supports our shared gospel efforts, but strengthening the backbone takes every congregation and each member. Jesus gave us the Great Commission, but what does fulfilling the Great Commission look like for you and your congregation?

Read more from Rev. Mark Gabb, home missions administrator, to learn how you and your congregation can shine the light of God's Word and continue strengthening WELS' backbone.

Asia Lutheran Seminary fall graduation

Asia Lutheran Seminary hosted its 12th graduation ceremony at Grace Lutheran Church in Hong Kong on October 19, 2025. They celebrated the achievement of 35 individual graduates who received various certificates, diplomas, and degrees. Those students are now preparing to enter into the mission field to share the gospel throughout Asia. God's blessings to those graduates as they share the gospel wherever they may be.

New Start: Olathe, Kan.

Olathe, located in the fast-growing southwest Kansas City metro area, has seen its population surge with continued growth expected. Major employers have fueled this expansion, making Olathe one of the most affordable and family-friendly cities in the nation. The Nebraska District Mission Board has been working with Mt. Olive in Overland Park, Kan., to establish a new mission, gathering a dedicated core group and hosting regular Bible studies and planning meetings. With strong support from Mt. Olive and a clear vision for outreach, the Olathe mission is poised to reach many new families with the gospel.
