Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., has been part of WELS Home Missions for the past ten years. In 2020, the congregation stepped out in faith and opened a preschool with a clear purpose—to use education as a way to reach children and their families with the gospel.

With God’s blessing, Risen Savior Academy has grown and now seeks to be the premier Christian school in Lakewood Ranch—a place where the hearts and lives of children and their families are eternally changed by the love of Jesus. Save the date for Taste of Missions, June 13, 2026! Join us at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wis., for a celebration of gospel outreach and the commissioning of new home and world missionaries. The event begins with a special worship service, where we’ll joyfully send these missionaries to share Christ’s love around the globe.

Following the service, enjoy ethnic cuisine from mission fields, connect with fellow attendees, and hear firsthand accounts from missionaries about their work. Explore mission displays, participate in interactive activities, and ask questions during a panel discussion for deeper insights into the joys and challenges of mission work.

Missionary Howard Mohlke shares a powerful story of transformation from Kisii, Kenya—one marked by faith, growth, and collaboration. It begins with a boy who grew up in a church where he never heard about Jesus. Everything changed when he attended a Christian school, where a teacher spoke about the good things Jesus had done. Curiosity took root, and over time, that boy came to know Jesus personally and felt a deep calling to share the gospel with others.

Today, that boy is Pastor Kenedy, who faithfully shepherds two congregations in Kisii. Through online connections, his group partnered with Truth in Love Ministry, which serves people from a Mormon background. After fruitful conversations, it became clear that a deeper partnership was needed to reach the number of former Mormons in his flock. Plans are now underway to explore how the One Africa Team can collaborate with Truth in Love to equip and support local leaders for gospel ministry.
