A Campus Ministry spring break of service and growth

A spring break of service and growth

From March 14 to March 18, 2026, 16 college students from WELS campus ministries at South Dakota State University (SDSU), University of Wisconsin (UW)—La Crosse, UW—Stevens Point, and UW—Stout spent their spring breaks serving in Southern California through Mission Journeys. Their week of volunteering concluded with a retreat.

From Saturday to Wednesday, students split into three Mission Journeys groups. They served alongside WELS congregations like Reformation in San Diego, Beautiful Saviour in Carlsbad, and Ascension in Escondido.

For many students, this trip was both a step of faith and a chance to grow in community.

Hear from student attendee Megan Juckett as she reflects on a week that left a lasting impact on students across multiple campus ministries.

Missionary wives retreat

At the end of March, a large group of world missionary wives gathered for a retreat—this time in Lisbon, Portugal. Wives from each of our world mission one teams spent meaningful time together in fellowship and in God’s Word. Retreats like this provide valuable opportunities for encouragement, connection, and mutual support among women serving in similar mission settings.

We thank God for these women and pray that he continues to strengthen them as they share the gospel and support the work of world missions alongside their families.

Mount Hope hosts their worship launch

On March 29, 2026, Mount Hope in Bend, Oregon, celebrated its worship launch—marking an exciting milestone for this growing mission. First approved in 2024, the mission has already gained meaningful traction in the community.

The worship launch saw a strong turnout, reflecting growing interest in this new ministry. We thank the Lord for his blessings on this mission and pray that its members continue to boldly share the gospel throughout the community.

Bastrop, Texas

Located about 25 miles east of Austin, Bastrop is experiencing rapid growth fueled by new residential development and expanding economic activity. Major employers now headquartered in Bastrop, including X and Starlink, have drawn new families to the area. As Bastrop continues to expand, many residents lack church connections, and a confessional Lutheran presence remains limited. Members of Holy Word in Austin, Texas, have formed a committed core group that has been meeting regularly, engaging the community through service and outreach, and building relationships with residents. Bastrop presents a timely opportunity for a new Home Mission start.
