Aquí tu paz. “Here is your peace.”
Ángel Otero spent his entire career in the US Army, working to bring peace to the areas he served.
But he and his wife, Maribel Diaz, didn’t find true peace—spiritual rest—until they visited a WELS church in Florida during Ángel’s last tour of duty.
Now the retired couple is working to spread that peace to other Spanish speakers. “It’s like a second career,” says Ángel, “and a different kind of army.”

Save the date for Taste of Missions on June 13, 2026! Join us at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wis., for a celebration of gospel outreach and the commissioning of new home and world missionaries. The event begins with a special worship service, where we’ll joyfully send these missionaries to share Christ’s love around the globe.
Following the service, enjoy ethnic cuisine from mission fields, connect with fellow attendees, and hear firsthand accounts from missionaries about their work. Explore mission displays, participate in interactive activities, and ask questions during a panel discussion for deeper insights into the joys and challenges of mission work.

In late February 2026, Stefan Felgenhauer, WELS director of Missions operations, traveled to Dakar, Senegal, to explore the language and culture immersion experience that will prepare Dan and Karen Kroll for service among the Wolof people.
From meeting with language instructors to visiting host families, Stefan saw firsthand what the Krolls’ first months in Senegal will look like as they learn Wolof and begin building relationships in this new mission field.

What causes teens who have been raised in the Christian church to walk away? This question troubles churches everywhere. In WELS, about 60 percent of young people leave the church by the time they reach their mid-20s, with the majority leaving in the 17- to 23-year-old age range.
Jill Gilchrist, a member at Illumine, Rock Hill, S.C., has unique insight into this issue.

At the end of March, a large group of world missionary wives gathered for a retreat—this time in Lisbon, Portugal. Wives from each of our world mission one teams spent meaningful time together in fellowship and in God’s Word. Retreats like this provide valuable opportunities for encouragement, connection, and mutual support among women serving in similar mission settings. We thank God for these women and pray that he continues to strengthen them as they share the gospel and support the work of world missions alongside their families.
