Lutheran Recovery Ministries’
2018 Recovery Retreat
Across the country, substance abuse, pornography addiction and struggles with mental health issues are soaring. Many WELS churches are aware of the growing need to offer sound spiritual recovery resources for those who combat temptation and desire to remain in recovery.
Currently, WELS churches lack sufficient programming and resources to address these needs with solidly Lutheran spiritual resources. Lutheran Recovery Ministries has responded with RESILIENT Recovery groups and now a recovery retreat for WELS members.
The Lutheran Recovery Ministries’ Recovery Retreat for WELS members will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery in Phoenix, AZ October 26-28, 2018. The theme is Finding Hope Amidst Pain and Suffering. Our verse is “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12. It starts at 6pm on Friday night and goes through Sunday at noon. There will be sharing meetings (both mixed and according to need), breakout groups, Law and Gospel presentation, guided prayers, songs, Sunday service, socializing and lots to eat! We are keeping it somewhat intimate with 50-60 attendees.
The total cost for the retreat is $142 which includes four meals and accommodations. (Accommodations are limited.) Retreat only without accommodations is $72. These are the early bird special amounts. After July 15, the cost with accommodations is $162 and cost without accommodations is $92. Complete the downloadable registration form and send it to the retreat organizers.
Our goals for the retreat are to provide a positive spiritual experience for WELS members who are: (a) in recovery from a substance abuse disorder, pornography addiction or a mental health disorder; (b) have a loved-one in recovery; (c) struggle with any habitual sin; AND equip attendees to develop and improve recovery ministries in their home churches.
In the informational breakout sessions, participants will learn distinctly Lutheran approaches to recovery, along with practical advice about starting and maintaining recovery groups. In the Resilient Law and Gospel recovery meetings, participants will experience a Christ-exalting recovery meeting. The Resilient Law and Gospel meeting can be replicated in a participant’s home congregation or serve as inspiration for home-grown recovery meeting formats. In the small group prayer and worship sessions, participants will boldly approach the throne of mercy, asking God for personal and congregational healing. Fellowship and further spiritual growth will take place in our congregant meals and worship.
