Mark 11:1-19
Mark 11
Jesusā Triumphal Entry Into Jerusalem
1 As they approached Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, on the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples 2Ā and told them, āGo into the village ahead of you. As soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it here. 3Ā If anyone asks you, āWhy are you doing this?ā say, āThe Lord needs it, and he will send it back here without delay.āā
4Ā They left and found a colt on the street, tied at a door; and they untied it. 5Ā Some who were standing there asked them, āWhat are you doing, untying that colt?ā 6Ā The disciples answered them just as Jesus had instructed them, and the men let them go.
7Ā They brought the colt to Jesus, threw their garments on it, and Jesus sat on it. 8Ā Many people spread their garments on the road. Others spread branches that they had cut from the fields. 9Ā Those who went in front and those who followed were crying out,
Hosanna! [1]
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! [2]
10Ā Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!
Hosanna in the highest!
11Ā Jesus went into the temple courts in Jerusalem and looked around at everything. Since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.
Jesus Curses a Fig Tree
12Ā The next day, after they had set out from Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13Ā When he saw a fig tree in leaf in the distance, he went to see if he might find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, since it was not the season for figs. 14Ā Jesus said to it, āMay no one ever eat fruit from you again!ā And his disciples were listening.
Jesus Cleanses His Fatherās House
15Ā They came to Jerusalem. Jesus went into the temple area and began to drive out those who were selling and buying in the temple courts. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling doves. 16Ā He would not allow anyone to carry any merchandise through the temple courts. 17Ā He began to teach them: āIs it not written: āMy house will be called a house of prayer for all nationsā? [3] But you have made it āa den of robbersā!ā [4]
18Ā The chief priests and the experts in the law heard this and were looking for a way to kill him. Indeed they were afraid of him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.
19Ā When evening came, Jesus and his disciples would leave the city.
