Pakistan

The mission in Pakistan grows like a beautiful rose in the desert. Pakistan is 97% Muslim and only 1% Christian. The WELS mission in Pakistan has 28 house churches, 25 Sunday schools, 16 non-formal schools, one formal elementary school, and a high school with 400 students. WELS holds workshops for the teachers in our Sunday schools three times a year. The non-formal schools run from 3-6 p.m., giving children who work in the fields the opportunity to receive an education. Learn more about WELS mission history in Pakistan.

A formal theological training program for the English-speaking leaders in Pakistan will begin soon. The prayer is that these English-speakers will eventually teach Urdu-speaking church leaders in their native tongue.

More than 500,000 Christian books and other literature have been translated into three languages spoken in Pakistan and distributed with help from Multi-Language Productions, and more than 63,000 people have been enrolled in the Bible Correspondence and Teaching School. A WELS website in English and Urdu, the main language in Pakistan, offers a great array of Christian literature along with videos of Bible stories. WELS Christian Aid and Relief continues to provide humanitarian aid through free medical clinics, earthquake and flood relief, charity for the poor, and sewing classes.
