Leviticus 25 and the Liberty Bell
By Dave Liggett:Bio on June 30, 2009
Leviticus 25:10 says “Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants.” Since the last synod convention we have been celebrating a WELS Year of Jubilee based on the event God established in Leviticus 25. This chapter is beautiful because it is speaking not just about financial debts. When you comparatively read Isaiah 61:1-2, Luke 4:16-21, and Leviticus 25, you realize that the Bible from beginning to end focuses on a full and free forgiveness for all sins through faith in the Lamb of God. It would be interesting to know what the crafters of the Liberty Bell were thinking when they engraved part of Leviticus 25:10 on the bell. Praise the Lord that through faith in Jesus we know he is the one who has set us free from all sins, from death, and the power of the devil.

What Kind of Tech User Are You?
By Martin Spriggs:Bio on June 12, 2009
One research site I frequent is the Pew Internet and American Life Project. They provide very professional research data on all things internet and technology. Much of the info I provide in workshops I run comes from this source. (By the way, I’m offering a workshop entitled Digital Outreach in a Digital World tomorrow at Grace Lutheran in downtown Milwaukee. More over the next year.)
Pew recently ran an interesting survey that asked the question, “What kind of tech user are you?” Anybody can answer the handful of questions about your online activities. Not overly spiritual, but interesting none-the-less. You get immediate feedback classifying you as one of the following: Digital Collaborator, Ambivalent Networker, Media Mover, Roving Node, Desktop Veteran, Drifting Surfer, Information Encumbered, Mobile Newbie or Technology Indifferent. Here were my results. Try it yourself at: http://www.pewinternet.org/Participate/What-Kind-of-Tech-User-Are-You.aspx
You are an Digital Collaborator
If you are a Digital Collaborator, you use information technology to work with and share your creations with others. You are enthusiastic about how ICTs help you connect with others and confident in your ability to manage digital devices and information. For you, the digital commons can be a camp, a lab, or a theater group – places to gather with others to develop something new.

Church Camp
By Dave Liggett:Bio on June 12, 2009
More and more WELS congregations are looking at unique ways to keep their members and people in their communities in the Word. One idea is residential or day camps. These camps give both staff and campers the opportunity to be in the Word in a unique atmosphere. They help participants appreciate even more the beauty of this creation in which our Beautiful Savior has placed us. Do you have any other ideas or examples of ways in which we can keep our people in the Word during the summer?

School’s Out
By Dave Liggett:Bio on May 29, 2009
Many teachers are concerned about how much of what their students have learned they are going to retain during the three month absence from school. One of the things that concerns me is the fact that many of those same students and their families also go absent from weekly worship at church during the summer months. What can we do about this? What are some ways to encourage both our students and families to stay tuned up in their learning and in their faith?
