Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
God is Active in Your Life
When life seems rather boring or routine, we might think God is not active in our life. If our life seems to crash and burn, it may seem that God is not involved in our life. When we’re so busy rushing about, we could assume that we are responsible for all that happens and that God is not around. If you think that way, you’re dead wrong.
Look at God’s Word for today and see God at work in our lives. We were once spiritually dead in sin and on the road to hell. But then God stepped into our lives and made us spiritually alive. God saved us. In fact, God already sees us sitting with Christ in heaven above. God worked faith in our spiritually lifeless hearts so that we believe. God’s gifts of grace and faith were not a result of our work or effort so that we could boast about what we have accomplished. It was, and is, God at work in our lives. God has created and worked in us our talents and abilities. And until we join him in heaven, God gives us a life-long series of opportunities to put those God-given talents and abilities to use in the good works we do for others and to serve him.
And God didn’t do this because we are such wonderful people and so deserving of it. No! We were spiritually dead and full of sin. All of God’s activity in our life is because of God’s grace and mercy.
• It was God’s rich mercy that made us alive when we were spiritually dead.
• It was God’s grace that saved us.
• Nothing can compare to the riches of God’s grace given to us in Jesus Christ who came to live, die and rise again for us.
• This grace and our own faith are gifts from God to us.
God not active in our lives? He was active in our lives before we were born when he sent Christ to save us through his life, death and resurrection. He is active in our lives now with his gifts of faith and the good works he prepares for us to do every day. He will be active in our lives as he gives us more opportunities to do good and when he seats us with him in heaven above.
Thank God that in his gracious mercy and love he is active in your life every day in more ways than you could ever imagine! Thank God that he gives you opportunities to respond to his loving activity in your life with the good works you do for him and those around you!
Dear Lord, help me always to see your gracious activity in my life. Then help me respond every day to your grace with a life of love and good works. Amen.
